Rock, the reserve’s dominant bull, canters down a dirt road in search of a would-be usurper. All the other males are still too young and small to challenge him properly. They mostly just annoy him and then run off as soon as he asserts himself. He’s usually as cool as a cucumber because he’s so confident in his strength. Watching him run is a sight to behold. The way that a 2.5 ton animal like this can just prance down the road like a showjumping horse warming up, never ceases to amaze me.
